Informed Childbirth

Our mission is to empower women and their partners to make educated and informed decisions regarding their pregnancy, labor and birth. This is accomplished through a deep understanding of the birthing process and a loving, nurturing birth environment. We offer an assortment of childbirth classes to meet each family's unique needs.

We believe in the right of every woman to have a positive and successful birth experience. We offer support to all women through childbirth education and birth and postpartum Doula services regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, culture, income, background, or sexual orientation.

Amy McKinnell and Informed Childbirth would like to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy 2013. We are excited for the New Year to come and all the wonderful babies and new mothers it will bring. Amy graduates from Midwifery School in the Spring of 2013! Birth work is an amazing and uniquely gratifying work. It takes knowledge, patience, compassion, kindness and so much more. Thank you to everyone for their love and support over the last few years.

Frustrating that babies position mandates a c-section in so many states. Breech babies are born naturally all over the world. What did we do before surgery and unnecessary medical interventions? Who has the right to tell any woman how she must give birth? So frustrated right now.

4 babies born in less than 12 hours on Halloween. SO Happy I was able to participate in all of the mom’s prenatal care and attend 1 of those births. Congratulations to all of the new moms and families that worked so hard for healthy, natural, peaceful childbirth :-)

Be prepared for hurricanes by keeping a 3 day supply of fresh water, food, flashlights, and other supplies on hand.

And i’m off to another birth :-)

Cutest baby born at home early this morning :-)

Hi everyone! Sorry for the lag in posts. I’ve been working night’s as a postpartum doula. Between the night shift, clinic, classes, family and births it has been an amazingly busy month. I have learned a lot about how much sleep I REALLY do need, learned some important lessons in labor and birth, seen my family pull together to support me and simply let me sleep (they really can cook, clean and put away laundry without my help), I can still pass exams by cramming and much more. For anyone in the birth field, I feel closer to you and offer all of you the highest praises. It takes a strong woman to be “with woman” and I can’t imagine being anything else :-)

I watched the sun rise over the Fort Lauderdale skyline this morning driving home from a super fast birth. Both mom and baby are doing well!
